Let’s talk about writer’s block.
It’s something every writer (and every person) has gone through. You have an idea of what you want to say in your next blog post or your newest social media post. But when it’s time to put the words onto the page, your mind goes blank.
What gives?
Well, the worst thing you can do at this moment is to abandon your writing. Sure, stepping away for a couple of days could help, but what if your writer’s block is lasting weeks or even months?⠀⠀⠀
Reading increases our creativity, sparks new ideas, and helps relax your mind. When you start reading, you take the pressure off to create new content and instead dive into someone else’s world and learning their story.
Read content in the genre that you’re currently writing in, and you will have new ideas coming to you in no time. For example, if you’re writing a blog for your wedding business, read a wedding magazine, or another industry professional’s blog. It may spark new ideas, inspire you, or encourage you to look at your blog from a different perspective. Anything is possible!
If you’re stuck in your writing, try writing something else. Look up some writing prompts online or buy a book of writing prompts from your local bookstore. Interesting and unique prompts get your creative juices flowing again and may give you insight into those troublesome areas of your own story.
Even if it doesn’t, you will have gotten some writing done. That’s a milestone worth celebrating when you’ve felt stuck.
Creative outlets lend ideas to one another. Most creative practices are generated in the same area of the brain, so you could spark more creativity with one action. If writing is giving you a headache, try doing something creative, like knitting, painting, dancing, or making music.
It’s up to you what you do, but keeping yourself in a creative mindset is key to getting out of a writing funk. Writer’s block seems even more impossible to defeat when your brain is nowhere near thinking creatively.
Create a writing routine – whether it’s an hour-long writing marathon or fifteen minutes throughout the week. Establishing a consistent writing routine will get your mind used to creating new ideas every day. Sporadic behavior makes it harder to stay consistent in the long run. With any long project, consistency is key.
Writing about a writer’s block is better than not writing at all.
–Charles Bukowski
Even if what you’re writing is pure garbage, some words are better than no words—you can always edit later. Besides, the only person seeing your writing is you! There’s no shame in a sloppy first, second, or even fifth draft. It’s all a work in progress until you click publish.
Writing can be daunting for many small business owners. You’re an expert in your field, but that doesn’t mean you’re also an incredible wordsmith!
If you’re still stuck or can’t dedicate the time to get unstuck, you can hire a copywriter to write the content.
Thanks to the flexible nature of working with a copywriter, you can outsource the writing you can’t handle. Like doing your social media but hate long-form blogging? I can help you tell your story, and you can get back to doing what you do best!
No matter your goal, I can help you meet it with compelling copy that gets your ideal customer to convert.
